The first WED was celebrated in 1974 in Spokane, USA. The slogan for that first year was ‘Only One Earth’ and was celebrated with the world’s first dedicated exhibition on environment.
In 1974. First WED was hosted in the city of Spokane in the USA with the collaboration of 34 different cities in 25 countries, from Cuba to Korea, Belgium to Brazil. Every year people around the world attend a large number of events to focus on the main problem regarding the environment and every year celebrations focus on a specific issue. In the past ten years, major aspects such as wildlife, forests and plastic waste, marine pollution, human overpopulation, and global warming have been focused on the celebration.
